Detailed Program
01
Day 1: Cusco – Wayquecha Station
We start our journey in the thrilling Manu Jungle, where we will pick up adventurers at around 4:30am from their hotels in Cusco in our private transport. Today we head towards the lush cloud forest region, where the Andes meet the Amazon basin, a place of dramatic landscapes and stark contrasts.
Our first stop will be Huacarpay Lake, a mountain wetland habitat, home to numerous bird species, such as the endemic bearded mountaineer, the reddish-faced canastero, and several non-endemic bird species. Following this, we’ll make a brief stop to spot the creamy-crested spinetail before reaching the last Andean pass – Acjanacu. On a clear day, the view from the last range of the Andes towards the Amazon basin is spectacular. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the upper bounds of the eastern slopes, where a variety of bird species can be found. We’ll spend the night at Wayquecha Biological Station.

Day 2: Full day of birdwatching at Wayquecha Station
After breakfast, we will be serenaded by birds such as the red-and-white Antpitta. We’ll spend the entire day exploring the biological station until our next stop at 1300 meters, a pristine forest a short bus ride away. We will spend the night at the comfortable Wayquecha Biological Station.

Day 3: From Wayquecha Station to Cock of the Rock Lodge
After breakfast, we’ll set out for an extensive day of birdwatching, identifying various species along the way. In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at the Cock of the Rock Lodge, where we’ll enjoy the hummingbird feeder and have the chance to observe various owl species during the night. We will spend the night at the Cock of the Rock Lodge.

Day 4: Full day at Cock of the Rock Lodge
This lodge is located in the pristine cloud forest of the Manu mountains, just a few minutes’ walk from a spectacular Cock-of-the-rock lek (Rupicola Peruviana). Following this, we’ll explore the trail system behind the lodge, allowing a firsthand view of the cloud forest underbrush. We’ll spend the night at the Cock of the Rock Lodge.

Day 5: From Cock of the Rock Lodge to Amazonia Lodge
We will depart early by car from Cock of the Rock heading to Amazonia Lodge, located in the Manu tropical forest, near the town of Atalaya. This lodge is situated in the transition zone between the Andean foothills and the lowland tropical rainforest, right on the banks of the Upper Madre de Dios River. Here, we’ll have ample opportunities to spot hummingbirds and various jungle bird species. We will also have the chance to explore the area’s nocturnal wildlife. We’ll spend the night at Amazonia Lodge.

Day 6: From Amazonia Lodge to Cusco
We’ll return very early to Cusco, with chances to see more birds, especially along the Cloud Forest route. On the Andean route in the Lake San Salvador sector, we’ll make a stop to observe various species. We’ll arrive in Cusco around 6:00 pm.

Manu is one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth, but wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. They depend on weather, season, and natural animal behavior. Our guides maximize opportunities through experience and knowledge of the rainforest.
The expedition is considered easy to moderate. Activities include boat travel and guided jungle walks. A basic level of mobility is recommended, but no trekking experience is required.
